How Did I Miss God?

Luke 10:40-42

40 “But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” 41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Many people have a genuine desire to see and hear from God, but many rarely take the time and initiative to pause for His presence to manifest. Can I submit to you that God will speak to anyone who will listen and will make Himself visible to those that seek Him? One of the main reasons we miss God is because we are pursuing our desires. If your main desire is to personally fulfill your agenda, then there is no room for anything else…..including God.

We see this in the story of Martha and Mary in Luke 10. Martha desired to fulfill her agenda; therefore, she missed out on God’s presence and hearing God’s voice. Mary, on the other hand, paused and stopped to sit at Jesus’ feet basking in His presence and hearing His teachings. She was able to hear Jesus because she intentionally slowed down and wasn’t busy like her sister, Martha. We oftentimes miss God because of being busy, busy, busy! God will speak and show himself to anyone who will listen and to those who seek Him.

I heard a teacher once say that BUSY stood for – Being Under Satan’s Yield. Sometimes, the enemy keeps us focused on the wrong things at the wrong time, hindering our impact. But those who keep their eyes on Jesus will experience God’s unending, infallible, and incomparable peace. Don’t allow being busy to take you out of the presence of God.

Blessings!
