Your Desires vs. GOD’s Plans
Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,[f] because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.” ~ Genesis 32:28
When God wants to grow you, He doesn’t send you to the school of comfort, but He sends you to the school of necessity. God rarely gives us our desires the way we think they should come and the time we think they should come. God’s planning and timing is always perfect. He has an impeccable track record of coming through at just the right time.
We see a familiar story in Genesis 32, the story of Jacob (renamed Israel). Jacob wanted a blessing that his character didn’t align with. God truly wanted to use Jacob, so he sent Jacob through a time and process that wasn’t comfortable, but it was necessary for him so he could realize God was shaping and molding him into what he needed to be in order to receive the blessing.
God knows all and sees all and knows the beginning from the end. If it were up to us, we would have everything easy. It is often said “if it’s too easy to achieve, it’s probably not worth it”. God allowed the necessary hardship to come upon Jacob to prepare him for his future. Jacob would soon be an essential element of a nation chosen by God. To much is given, much is required.
Growth and comfort can’t live together. Growth will require necessary processes in order
to mature you spiritually, mentally and physically. God knows what you need and how you need it. When God wants to grow you, He doesn’t send you to the school of comfort, but He sends you to the school of necessity.
Blessings to you as you embrace this truth.
